Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult
CSA Catapult is a centre of excellence with state-of-the-art equipment that specialises in the measurement, characterisation, integration and validation of compound semiconductor technology across four areas—power electronics, advanced packaging, radio frequency (RF) and microwave, and photonics. Compound semiconductors will enable a host of new and exciting applications, helping us achieve Net Zero and ensuring that the UK has a resilient future telecoms network.
CSA Catapult is involved in projects exploring the electrification of large marine vessels that rely on hydrogen fuel cell technology. A critical element of this is the power electronic coupling of fuel cells to batteries, which supply electrical energy for the propulsion motors. Compound semiconductors enable efficient, power-dense and lower system cost power conversion. CSA Catapult is establishing innovative power electronic design workflow methodologies for multi-objective optimised DC-DC converters for fuel cell-to-battery coupling.
